Which wood species is best for outdoor furniture?

     The best wood species for outdoor furniture are those that have good natural moisture resistant properties. Outdoor furniture made from these species last longer as they have natural insect resistant properties. They are also hard wood and have a long lasting finish. While modern outdoor furniture is made from plastic and metal, there is nothing to beat wood furniture because of its recycling properties. Even if the original shine fades over time, wood can be sand papered and polished to bring back the original gleam.

 Teak is wonderful but expensive and much harder to glue (must use a solvent to first remove the oils on the joint before gluing and must use an epoxy glue).  It's the choice of shipbuilders for centuries but it also requires maintenance, at least every other year you'll probably be sanding it and re-oiling it.  Although we had a table we let go for nearly 8 and it was fine.  Just sanded it recently and reoiled.  Like new again!
